the woo is the glue

woo gluethe woo is the glue
that holds us together
if it weren’t for her
we’d be strapped in
with leather
criss-crossed arms
and a muzzle no doubt
to keep the crazy
from seeping out
the woo is the paste
that keeps us in place
she’s the marilyn
to our munsters
if i am grampa
and he is herman,
that tall disarming gruntster

Daily prompt – doubt

the absence of technique

daddy’s darling watched him paint
and wanted to paint some too
so he let her paint the mailbox
but he found when she was through
paint on her clothes
and the tip of her nose
and a blue slash defining her cheek
he really had to marvel atpainted-girl-807497__340
the absence of technique
there was paint on her arms,
in fact, most of her body
the mailbox however,
decidedly spotty,
needed painting again
to look painted first
if it had been a dismal day
daddy would have cursed
but no other apprentice was cheerier
and she had such zeal
so next time she appealed
he assigned her the closet interior

his heart was on his sleeve

meerkat and butterfly
some might say that bobby was
being all too obvious
you could agree with them because
his heart was on his sleeve
miss lucinda’s hobby was
snobby is as snobby does
pretentious thing
she prob’ly was
and we’re all quite relieved…
when we get on our wobbly buzz
we’re more out there than bobby was
she wouldn’t last a minute on thanksgiving.

if we’re smart

geese-1406725_960_720you spend your life
looking for the thing
that lasts
something to help
the time to pass
it’s not your youth
it’s not your friends
it’s not your health
these inevitably end
but family
if you do it right
if you’re lucky enough
can come pretty close
until death do we part
if we’re smart

we were once pangaea

we were once pangaea,
a continent connected,
but lately laws of gravity
have left us unprotected.
disputes propelled us
kinetics moved us
out to sea,
we are metaphysically
strangers, unexpectedly.
like islands floating
fast away
solidifying distance,
we just can’t seem
to come to terms
with peaceful coexistence.
our conversation’s
shallow now,
our smiles
are artificial,
we choose our sides,
we shield our pride,
our friendship’s
as we drift further
from the core
of what this family
was before.
