dapper dan

daniel lives a patterned life
pin stripes and polka dots
oxfords with a matching belt
a fancy windsor knot
a pocket square
a walking cane
topped off with a fedora
a band of leather
a peacock feather
completes his classy aura

somebody should tell him that

he’s looking sharp today
but, dazzled by dan’s dappery,
they’ve fainted dead away

rhonda did a rhumba

rhonda did a rhumba
it was rhythmic
it was raw
impressive for a rhino
who had not rhumba-ed before
she crushed the rhododendrons
she destroyed the rhubarb too
but rhonda’s rheumatism
was relieved, so that was new
rhonda in her rhinestones
is reflected in the lake
her rump’s creating ripples
making her pal rhea quake
rhonda’s been rhapsodic
and her rhetoric’s turned nasty
she’s been feeling randy
since she had her rhinoplasty

lush lush

the lush lass
slept it off
in the lush grass
woke up with
a banging head
could be worse
she could be dead
next night
she fell down
even quicker
some girls
just can’t
hold their liquor
if this lush grass
gets any lusher
this lush lass
will need an usher
to find
her way
back home

consortium emporium

the geese flocked to the zoo to see
a gaggle of themselves
with other little statuettes
on other little shelves
the souvenir shop had stocked up
on groups of every critter
from bloats of hungry hippos
to a lounge of leaping lizards
some foxes skulked into the shop
they bought a pack of rats
followed by a baboon troop
who sought a cloud of bats
alligators congregated curiously too
sure they’d heard of caribou
they came to catch a few

eager to succumb

companion piece to web slinger

the sultry, savvy spider sets
her own successful traps
sticky, strong, she strings along
some unsuspecting saps

so it was with her and him,
she the spider, on a whim,
released the pest he had become,
though he was eager to succumb

the wholly holey unholy pair

and underpaid
are clinging
the undercroft
under where
they’re singing
Father Herman’s
sleight of hand
removes the holey pair
he heads up for
his sermon
and he leaves them
laying there
it’s a roaring
that brings them
to their knees
and while they’re
genuflecting there
he’s thankful
for the breeze

just beyond my view

i’ve never witnessed
i fidgeted
got bored
i followed other interests
the idea was ignored
i may have inadvertently
stumbled toward it
as a youth
but found it inaccessible
and just beyond my view
though lately
i’m involved
in introspection
my thoughts have headed
back in that direction

fantastically bombastic

german is my
favorite language
so enthusiastic
staccato sounds
that bounce around
fantastically bombastic
ich habe hunger
ich habe durst
it’s almost like
there’ll be a star
for the one who
feeds me first
imperative, imperial
impressive german is
guttural, unutterably
expressive german is
ganzen morgen
ganzen abend
authoritative, sonorous
and when it’s
set to music
it’s mellifluous,
oh tannenbaum
auch luftballoon
willst du mit mir gehen
na ja nicht mich
ich liebst du nicht
also, auf wiedersehen

Daily prompt -enthusiasm
the translations:
ich habe hunger – i am hungry
ich habe durst – i am thirsty
ganzen morgen, ganzen abend – all morning, all evening
oh tannenbaum – oh christmas tree
auch luftballoon –  the balloon too
willst du mit mir gehen – will you go out with me
na ja nicht mich – yeah, no, not me
ich liebst du nicht – i don’t love you
ach, also, auf wiedersehen – oh well, see you later

a beast in his abode

ali baba can’t abide
a beast in his abode
he can’t abide
the way they think
the way they speak
in code
his wife and kids,
have a weakness
for their critters
collecting them
like postage stamps
collecting some
in litters
ali baba
went abroad
in abject
he bought a boat
on which he’ll float
absent of obligations
the sea will be his alibi
soon he’ll realize
some beasts fly
