kitty blogger

kitty blogger
to her credit
takes the time
it takes to edit
dotting i’s
crossing t’s
parsing words
grammatically
busy lady
multi-tasker
she will tell you
if you ask her
she’s the ever-
ready bunny
it ain’t easy
it ain’t funny
kitty blogger
seeks perfection
raising kittens
working late
single momma,
and oxford comma,
(finds it hard
to concentrate)
getting tired now
getting cranky
got no time for
hanky panky
reading headlines
meeting deadlines
this should come as
no surprise
now she’s dotting t’s
and crossing eyes

fantastically bombastic

german-letters-1398760_960_720
german is my
favorite language
so enthusiastic
staccato sounds
that bounce around
fantastically bombastic
ich habe hunger
ich habe durst
it’s almost like
there’ll be a star
for the one who
feeds me first
imperative, imperial
impressive german is
guttural, unutterably
expressive german is
ganzen morgen
ganzen abend
authoritative, sonorous
and when it’s
set to music
it’s mellifluous,
harmonious
oh tannenbaum
auch luftballoon
willst du mit mir gehen
na ja nicht mich
ich liebst du nicht
also, auf wiedersehen

a beast in his abode

sailing-boat-569336_960_720
.
ali baba can’t abide
a beast in his abode
he can’t abide
the way they think
the way they speak
in code
.
his wife and kids,
conversely,
have a weakness
for their critters
collecting them
like postage stamps
collecting some
in litters
.
ali baba
went abroad
in abject
abdication
he bought a boat
on which he’ll float
absent of obligations
the sea will be his alibi
soon he’ll realize
some beasts fly

almost criminal

the word today is liminal
a word that’s almost criminal
that borders on the threshold
doorway-981803__480without coming in or going
unfit for conversation
without awkward hesitation
you wouldn’t say it to a friend
at least not one worth knowing
it has no trace of poetry
it paints a picture woefully
it shouldn’t be in greeting cards
it shouldn’t be in letters
it lingers on the precipice
it is, today, my nemesis
let’s pool our hopes together
that tomorrow’s word is better

hide the china

anticipation
may be
happy hope
or fearful
trepidation
aunticipation is,
emphatically,
the latter
whatever
the occasion
the occasion
doesn’t matter
spatting aunts
somehow just can’t
behave in public places
but still it’s always
nice to see their faces

Daily Prompt – anticipation

does it count?

she has the best of everything
all the bells and tweets
silks and satins,
gold embossed,
imported turkish treats
she dresses up
to dine alone
removed,
remote,
reclusive
a refugee retired
to somewhere safe
and non-abusive
surrounds herself
with no one
in an empty neighborhood
she cloaks herself in shadows
and goes walking in the woods
and like the tree that falls freely
with no one to decree it
does it count as ostentatious
if there’s no one there to see it?

the pickle-footed tickle

the pickle-footed tickle lived
beneath the castle keep
with other beings mythical
below the darkest deep
.

he crept upstairs at sunrisefig-1152054_960_720
too small for them to see
and hid himself behind
the bookcase in the nursery
.
peals of joyous mischief rang
when nanny left the suite
the pickle-footed tickle
tickled tiny little feet
.
the pickle-footed tickle
got the blame for lots of things
like leaving toys all strewn about
and leaving bathtub rings
.
and when the pie got eaten
they said he took the first bite
but he never got the credit for
how well they slept at night
.
he left on boxing day when all
they gave him was a nickel
and that’s the last we heard about
the pickle-footed tickle
.

brain freeze

today the words
won’t percolateautumn-1804592_960_720
the blood to brain
won’t circulate
i’m going to
perambulate
and hang out with
the sun today
the clouds the leaves
the passing breeze
may blow my blues away

too many leaves, too little nuts

the squirrel used hyperbole
leaves-10740_960_720to charm the nuts out of the tree
effectively, apparently
but the leaves came tumbling too
and now there is a moving mass
a chain of mountains on the grass

i’m not sure what to do

every now and then it juts

too many leaves, too little nuts
heaps of leaves are shuddering
with him inside there, muttering
now i will need hyperbole
to charm the squirrel from the leaves
or he’ll be six feet deep
beneath the compost heap

no no not again

he never made the majors

baseball-931712_960_720he was a heavy hitter but
he never made the majors
despite the fervent hopes
of all his family
and neighbors
they cheered him through
each new at-bat
he got some wood
each time and
he didn’t have
the follow through
to get around the diamond
he never hit a home run
he couldn’t even score
so now you know
why he’s not playing
baseball anymore…
she invites him over
he feels a bit uptight there
he only gets to second base
it’s his recurring nightmare
