please take it back outside

i have no flair for flattery
the peacock told his spouse
and yet you must admit
i add some color to the house
his spouse said dear
that’s good of you
don’t want to hurt your pride
but i’ve got lots of work to do
please take it back outside
and tell your friends about it
i’m sure they’ll all agree
if it’s flattery you’re fishing for
you won’t get that from me
i think you might discover
if you opened up a book
there’s more to love
than compliments
there’s more to life
than looks
